During the week of Jan. 22-28, Hawaii Island police arrested 21 motorists for DUI. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and two were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, Puna and Kona, seven each.
So far this year, there have been 78 DUI arrests compared to 107 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27.1 percent.
There have been 72 major accidents so far this year compared to 119 during the same period last year, a decrease of 39.5 percent.
To date, there have been no traffic fatalities in 2018, compared to three at this time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
